Species: Chestnut-collared Longspur (Calcarius ornatus)
Location: Bob & Ann Gammell Longspur Pasture, Burke County, North Dakota, United States
Age: adult     Plumage: alternate/breeding     Activity: flying
Sex: male     Visibility: full body     Quantity: single
Photographer: David Seibel     Date: June 30, 2006
Equipment: Canon EOS 20D and Canon 500mm f/4L IS     Megapixels: 8.2

Notes: This was an amazingly confiding, cooperative bird. Without a blind, fellow photographer Norm Smith and I approached within 6 feet of the little charmer as he sang, foraged, preened, and chased away intruding males, seemingly oblivious to our presence.
